Wai Nyair Giant Fruiting Rattana Palm (calamus viminalis)

A strongly climbing species with thin, cane-like, clustering stems and plumose, arching leaves with whorled leaflets and without a cirrus, so not as vicious as many rattans. It is widespread through Southeast Asia, from India and China to Indonesia, and grows in rain-forests at moderate altitudes. In Thailand, this species is popularly planted for heart-of-palm production.
