Thai-Malay Robust Climbing Rattan Palm (calamus longisetus)

A very vigorous and massive climbing rattan sporting large, edible fruits with an attractive scaly shell. Thai-Malay is found in lowland rain-forests from Burma south to peninsular Malaysia. Its strong canes can reach to 100 feet long and are a veritable fortress, armed with dense whorls of spines 2.5 inches long. It is one of the most heavily armed of all Rattan Palms. The leaves are large and spreading, with broad, grouped leaflets. It is best suited for the tropics and needs large trees for support. It provides strong canes for the manufacture of furniture.
